8:32 pm - christmas vacation
so, i'm sitting on the couch watching national lampoon's christmas vacation for the second time this weekend. it's about the fourth time i've seen it this holiday season. it's still hilarious.

the lefse party was yesterday. it was a good time. pictures will be available some time in the near future.

7:52 am - busy life
how busy has my life been of late? well, incubus's new album, light grenades, has been avaliable for about 12 days now. not only have i not purchased it yet, i hadn't even realized that it was released until someone asked me what my favorite band was yesterday. it's pretty sad that i obsess about my teaching job and the lessons that i will (or want to) implement yet i can't take the time to enjoy some tunes for over two weeks.

i also got asked to be the advisor for a vegetarian/vegan after school club. um, i'm not either of those lifestyles but apparently i'm a type of person who should be (or at least know what's up with that lifestyle). not entirely sure how i got that reputation. perhaps it was the green cardigan i wore yesterday.

even more also, a student told me yesterday that at the beginning of the year "everyone" thought i was mean and now i'm cool. i said i'd rather be known for making math cool, but i was informed that doing so is like pushing a boulder up a mountain. i said, "what if it's a really small boulder?" my humor is sometimes lost on my students.

4:30 pm - happy wednesday, all
tonight's plan includes visiting old friends and chinese buffet. it doesn't really get a whole lot better, does it?

of course, there's a video game tester on jeopardy today. i suppose it could get better for me.

4:25 pm - fetch those pics, yo
well, another weekend has passed by. it was a busy one full of driving, visiting, and looking through pictures over and over and over and over. that'll happen when you have two books of wedding proofs to sort through with various family members.

in other news, school's okay. it's just really easy to get frustrated with my students.

in other other news, this coming weekend is the last weekend without committments until after thanksgiving methinks.

10:53 am - today's humorous happening
today i was walking around the 8th grade math class while people were working on their assignments. i noticed one student was finished and reading a book. as i walked by, i read the heading at the top of the page. it read: "the nature of physics: measurement." this clearly piqued my interest and i asked him what book he was reading. he closed the book and i read in bold lettering "college physics."

i just about died laughing. he had gotten it from the science teacher who was just going to throw it out.

4:32 pm - time for the jeopardy
most of the time, when i watch jeopardy, i pause it and do other stuff for about 8 minutes so i can just fast forward through the commercials and chatting with the contestants.

i do this even if the other stuff i do is just spider solitaire, freecell, or make pointless livejournal entries. technology has made me into a very lazy and underexposed-to-advertising young man. long live the dvr!

9:40 am - a have you ever
have you ever just been sitting around surfing the web when you happen to look over at the television and notice that the volume marker on the tv has just increased from 25 to 28?

then, have you ever realized that you can clearly see the remote control on the coffee table only to instantaneously realize that no one else is around?

then, have you carried a coffee mug around ready to smash it on someone's head if you happen to find anyone?

well, the point is that i can now answer "yes" to all three of those questions.

slightly freaking out here.

9:32 am - the weekly summer update
well, i had an interesting week. let me just explain friday. it was by far the most interesting day of all.

it started with me needing to leave camp at 730 to make it to deforest for my interview. as i pull out of my parking space, nick p came running up to me saying, "andy! your tire's flat!" well, that was less than good news. so my boss let me borrow her car that still smells strikingly like cat pee from an incident around three years ago. later, i was filling up with gas and i was walking out of the convenience store after paying for said gas and missed the step and nearly broke my ankle. needless to say, my day started off quite well. and by well, i mean not good.

i manage to make it down with no further incidents. get in for my interview with a panel of two. yeah, two people and me. that was unusual. they told me that they were interviewing 8 people today and they'd soon narrow it down to the top 2 and have those 2 come in for a second interview this coming thursday that would involve actually working with the kids. blah blah blah. i actually felt mildly okay after leaving. more later.

then, it was time to meet up with windmilly for lunch at the olive garden in west towne. in giving me directions, jesse informed me to find the 12/18 beltline. for whatever reason, i thought the beltline was north of the capitol. it's not. so i got lost going around the capitol which put me back a good 15 minutes. found my way to the beltline by a complete stroke of genius/luck. then, i began to look for the university ave exit. apparently, there actually is no university avenue exit because the freeway ended and i was then leaving middleton. so i make a right turn and end up in a residential neighborhood with absolutely no sense of where i am or where i am going. many neighborhoods are made of square blocks. this neighborhood was made of nonagons (nine-gons). i found a gas station by magically driving and yelling without direction and made it to jesse's place of employment only 40 minutes late. we had a fantastically rushed lunch and it was really good to see them all (jesse, sarah, sarah's mom).

i then left to begin my journey back to camp. at some point, i passed an area of no phone service because just outside of tomah, i notice that my phone has a voicemail envelope in the corner. so i go and get my hopes up. i get to a gas station in kwik trip to fill up with gas again and recharge the minutes on my phone card. i call my phone to find out who called me only to discover that it was molly's old roommate saying he found a dictionary belonging to molly.

that was the first message. the second was deforest calling me back to ask if i could come in for a second interview. i'm in the top two. i now have a 50% chance of getting a job! yahoo!

this was the highlight of my week for sure.

i now must go and help get molly's yard set up for the garduation open house now. perhaps i'll update more later.

9:47 pm - sometimes, i'm just that smart
so i've been packing things up in preparation for my move and i've been coming across things. some of them work and some don't. i try to fix the things that don't.

i came across my desk fan. turned it on and nothing happened. i give the blades a bit of a push and still nothing. so i start to take the thing apart. get it apart and look around for things that might cause it to be not working. i jiggle some wires (there's my tv10 experience coming in handy) and put it back together. flip the switch and nothing. hm. i pull on it and realize that the cord seems incredibly long. that would be because one end is connected to the fan and the other end is connected to nothing.

sometimes, i'm just that smart.

7:21 pm - not a whole lot to say
except that a pair of my seventh grade students successfully launched a miniature marshmallow over 9 meters. it was impressive given that my furthest launch in the classroom was a mere 356 centimeters. of course, my marshmallow hit the ceiling. when i tested it the night before, it went easily 9 meters. the kids may have been right--perhaps we should have launched outside. don't tell them, though.

in other news, this week is the last shows for many people here at tv10. sunday is my last meeting. it's going to be sad. sad....

10:31 am - i never thought the day would come
when i would be voted prom king.

ok, so it was just tv10 prom king, but still... there were six people who voted for me! six people!

prom was pretty good times, despite the lack attendance of a ton of people. it really made me miss my old dj-ing days, though.
